Very good explanation in how for instance reporters on the field deal with transmition delays. Very good. They have an earpeace. Imagin talking and earing your voice with some delay while talking at same time. You would not be able to even talk. Very good explanation.

I love these. I started watching radio related content when I was looking into what kind of radio I would need for communications on coastal waterways, and how to work them. The boat turned out to be too expensive and there was little interest among friends and family for such a thing, but the radio stuff holds my interest still. Please keep it up!

As a teen i used to spend hours mucking about with my shortwave searching for the bizarre and boy did i find some amazing sound/noise signals. I always wondered as to origins of the particular weird ones My hobby is modular synthesizer's and patching up a sound/noise to match what I once found on shortwave would be a daunting effort indeed.

In Southern Johor, Malaysia, it is common practice and even norm for people to have 4 sets of antenna on their rooftop before digital switchover - which is to improve viewing choice. 1 or 2 sets of VHF Band III antenna pointing to Bukit Batok transmitter in Singapore and also Gunung Pulai transmitter in Malaysia. There may be a second or third set of VHF antenna bringing in the VHF Band I TV signals (as it was once transmitted from Gunung Pulai transmitter). There are also 2 UHF antennas, one pointing towards Gunung Pulai transmitter from the Gunung Pulai hills and another one, towards Bukit Batok transmitter in Singapore. In total a resident in Southern Johor can watch at least 13 analogue TV channels from both Malaysia and Singapore, in some areas even more due to strong signals from Batam Islands in Indonesia, providing increased choices to viewers. But then, the picture quality varies between each channel. Only the UHF elements are still used after the digital TV switchover and it is used to bring Malaysian DTT from Gunung Pulai and Singaporean DTT from Bukit Batok. As a result of digital switchover, newer antenna installations are usually just two UHF antennas as the VHF antennas are no longer necessary. As a result of digital TV deployment, both Malaysia and Singapore starts to roll out additional transmitters on their respective countries and all of them (in Singapore) are using SFN mode. While in Malaysia, they are using SFN groups (but in Southern Johor, the three digital transmitters serving the area uses the same frequency. Different areas have different frequencies) depending on the location of the country. Digital TV deployment and switchover also resolved the interference issues rampant in the region (due to the location able to receive multiple transmitters from three countries, and some coordination is necessary to avoid interfering each other's transmission). During the analogue-digital simulcast period, Malaysian and Indonesian TV transmissions even interfere with each other as there are so little frequencies left for both region as a result of overuse of the frequencies and it kinda cancels out the reception depending to the location. Analogue switch off in the region meant that the issue is solved. With a proper antenna installation, one can now receive at least 22 TV channels from Malaysia and Singapore, more if you are able to pick up Indonesian terrestrial broadcast. In practice, many in Southern Johor uses pay TV such as Astro to receive their TV (as digital terrestrial TV only officially starts at 2017 in Malaysia, there were test transmissions before that, and before that date Astro and its free to view service, NJOI are the only ways to receive good quality pictures from Malaysian TV.) IPTV or online streaming has also quickly become the alternative/norm too in the region due to much more viewing choices and sometimes, uncensored content.

I sometimes listen to from Aarhus Airport (approach). It is on VHF and quite clear (it's aound 12 km away). Can be funny some times.

Re link from Holyhead to Dublin, am pretty sure there was a MW link between a mast near Holyhead (close to South Stack Lighthouse?) and Three rock mountain in south Dublin. Certainly back in the day, Three rock had a MW dish pointing east across the Irish sea.

You've only lost the test match just now if you llistened to it ob an old clock radio or an old 1950's or 1960's LW and FM. The simcast of 4FM on 4LW plus the shipping forecast now can be heard on 4FM now means most people lidtening to Radio 4 will not be affected by the ending of the LW optouts.

I know of at least half a dozen antenna towers I pass on my various regular travels around north Essex, Suffolk and west Hertfordshire, all very similar with similar equipment mounted in them. I’m fairly certain that if I plotted them on a map they all have line of sight to each other. I often wonder what they do and whether I’m right. One of them is on top of the former “Secret” Nuclear Bunker at Kelvedon. Anyway, fascinating .

Hi there I like the covert transmitters. I know it's a bit outside your area but I remember a mobile mast hidden inside the price display of a Shell petrol station about 10 miles from Scarborough on the a64 . The giveaway was the big green box next to the sine and the time someone drove into it removing most of the plastic parts.

I would not mind a video of what is hiding in those sheds... Or am I being greedy?
